Russia has become the country with the third highest confirmed number of cases of COVID19, behind The United States and Spain. 232,000 people are confirmed to have the virus in Russia. Despite such a high number, Russia’s death toll is relatively low – at 2,116. However, experts suggest that Russia may be undercounting its coronavirus death toll.
In China, all residents of the city of Wuhan will be tested for COVID19. Wuhan has a population of 11 million. Wuhan is where COVID19 originated, however, cases have been very low in the last few weeks.
Afghanistan suffered two terrorist attacks yesterday. A maternity hospital was attacked by gunmen in the capital, Kabul. Interior minister, Tareq Arian said it was an ‘act against humanity’. Later a suicide bomber attacked a funeral in the east of Aghanistan. At least 24 people have died in both attacks. The Taliban said that it was not responsible
India’s president Narendra Modi announced $270 billion dollars to boost the Indian economy. Millions of Indians have lost their jobs in the last month. 80% of Indian workers are in the informal economy.
New Zealand has said that it supports Taiwan in being a part of the World Health Organization. Taiwan is currently excluded from the WHO because of objections from China. China considers Taiwan to be part of its territory.

The United States senior medical advisor Dr Anthony Fauci has warned that the pandemic is not under control. President Trump had said on Monday that the worst was behind them. Dr Fauci said that reopening too soon could start more outbreaks and could be dangerous…
“The consequences could be really serious. There is no doubt even under the best of circumstances that when you pull back on mitigation, you will see some cases appear. It is the ability and the capability of responding to those cases with good identification, isolation and contact tracing that will determine whether you can continue to go forward as you try to reopen America. So it is not only doing it at the appropriate time with the appropriate constraints but having in place the capability of responding when the inevitable return of infections occur.”
In Brazil many people want stricter lockdown measures. President Jair Bolsonaro’s popularity has fallen recently. Bolsonaro has been criticized for not taking the virus seriously. States are allowed to set their own restrictions, however, Bolsonaro wants everything open.
To compare, neighbouring Argentina has been in lockdown for the last two months. Argentina’s total COVID death toll is only 317 – but in Brazil 440 people died yesterday.
The richest woman in Africa has accused Angola of cheating her. Isabel Dos Santos had her bank accounts frozen by Angola last year. She has now said that forged documents were used against her. Isabel Dos Santos is the daughter of former president Jose Eduardo Dos Santos.
Uganda’s president has been accused of using the coronavirus to his advantage. Yoweri Museveni said that it would be ‘madness’ to hold next year’s election if coronavirus is still a problem. Museveni has been in power since 1986. Pop star Bobi Wine intends to challenge Museveni for the presidency.

The time it is most common to dream is the final moments before waking up – and this time is often stopped by your alarm clock. As many people are waking up later because of lockdowns, it is more likely that we dream.
In France many schools have opened, for the first time since March. Children are expected so social distance, and to wash their hands many times a day. on May 25th many more schools are expected to open, however, some parents are scared of sending their children to school because they believe that infection is still possible.
The oldest woman in Spain has beaten the coronavirus. 113 year old Maria Branyas was confirmed to have COVID19 weeks ago, but ahe did not go to hospital. Branyas, from Girona, was alive during the Spanish Flu of 1918. She has three children, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
